Local Sports Recap – September 8, 2023

The CWC Lady Bulldog Volleyball team wrapped up the NCOE tournament last night with two 3-set thrillers. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Hamilton County 25-18, 23-25, 15-11 but then fell to NCOE 20-25, 25-19 and 13-15. The Lady Bulldogs are now 6-1 on the season, they will travel to Benton tomorrow. 

The CWC Boys golf team hosted Salem, West Frankfort and Gallatin County at the Carmi Country Club yesterday, and the Bulldogs finished 2nd behind Salem with a team score of 169.
Maxon O’Daniel shot a 38.
Gabe Winkleman and Cayden Holloman both shot a 43.
Connor Newell and Aiden Willis both shot a 45.
Jax Jordan shot a 46.
The Bulldogs will take part in the Benton Invitational tomorrow.

The CWC Girls Tennis team defeated Fairfield yesterday 7-2. They will travel to Herrin tomorrow.

The CWC Junior high baseball and softball teams traveled to Mt. Carmel yesterday. Baseball fell 12-2 and softball won 11-10 after erasing a 10-2 deficit. The Lady Bullpups scored 2 in the 5th, 3 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th to win it. Both teams will host Fairfield on Monday.

The CWC Bulldog football team will not be in action tonight for Week 3 of the IHSA Football season, but other games around the area include:

Sesser Valier at Fairfield
Olney at Lawrenceville
Robinson at Mt. Carmel

The CWC Jr. Pro football team will travel to Hamilton County tomorrow. The 5th & 6th grade game will begin at 10:30 with the 7th & 8th grade game to follow.
