The Carmi-White County Bulldog football team fell to Breese Mater Dei by a final score of 40-22 in the first round of the IHSA playoffs on Saturday. Carmi fell behind quickly as Mater Dei jumped out to a 14-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.
The Bulldogs were able to cut that lead in half with a 38-yard touchdown pass from Landon Driscoll to Kade Stockton to make it a 14-8 game with just 6 minutes left to go in the 1st half. The Knights were able to score twice in the final 6 minutes of the 2nd half and then 2 more times and that was too much for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs got touchdown runs by Andrew Dodgson and Landon Driscoll to finish the game, and the Dogs ended their season at home with a 40-22 loss. Carmi finishes the year 7-3.
Congratulations to head coach Kurt Simon and the Bulldogs on a great season, and congratulations to the 8 Bulldog seniors on great careers.

Best of luck to the Carmi-White County Lady Bulldog volleyball team as they will take on Massac County tonight in the semifinals of the Pinckneyville Sectional. If the Lady Bulldogs win tonight, they will play either Pinckneyville or Fairfield in the sectional championship on Wednesday. Carmi is 30-7 on the year after they defeated Newton in the Lawrenceville regional championship last Thursday.
A big congratulations to Carmi-White County senior Lane Connaway and freshman Andrew Benham, who competed at the cross country sectional Saturday morning in Benton. Lane finished 42nd (out of 162 runners) in 16:56 and Andrew was 52nd in 17:21:10.
