Local Sports Recap – October 10, 2023

Back on Friday the Carmi-White County Bulldog football team defeated Edwards County by a final score of 44-7 to improve to 6-1 on the season and to clinch an IHSA playoff berth for the 3rd straight year, and the 18th time under head coach Kurt Simon. The Bulldogs are in 3rd Place in the Black Diamond Conference behind undefeated Johnston City and Sesser-Valier, who will face each other this Friday. The Bulldogs will then face Johnston City at home next Friday. Carmi still has a chance to claim their first conference championship since 2011 if Johnston City defeats Sesser-Valier this Friday, and the Bulldogs take down the Indians next Friday.

The Carmi-White County girls tennis team traveled to Highland yesterday for a double header, the Lady Bulldogs took the first match 9-0, but fell to Highland in the 2nd match 5-4. The Lady Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season today at home against Mt. Carmel for Senior Night. The Lady Bulldogs will honor their 2 seniors, Johanna Smith and Kadie Simmons. They will begin sectionals in Carbondale this Friday.

The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldog Volleyball team will host Cisne tonight at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium. They look to improve their record to 20-2 on the season. They will have a rematch with the first place Lady Mules of Fairfield on Thursday. A win for the Lady Bulldogs on Thursday would clinch a share of the BDC Championship.
