The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldogs are Sectional Champions!

Carmi defeated Newton last night in the IHSA 2A Sectional Championship in 2 sets, 25-19 & 25-21. 

It was a back-and-forth battle between two of the best volleyball teams in Southern Illinois, but the Lady Bulldogs prevailed late in both sets, winning their 37th match of the season. 

Carmi-White County moves on to the IHSA 2A Super-Sectional on Monday at Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond High School as they will face Bloomington Central Catholic. Central Catholic is 33-4, they defeated Champaign St. Thomas More last night in 2 sets in the Monticello Sectional Championship. 

The winner of Monday’s match will head to the IHSA State Finals in Bloomington next weekend.

Monday’s match is set for 6 PM. Fans who can’t attend will be able to watch the match on the NFHS Network, or they can tune in to 97.3 FM WRUL or the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel for an audio-only broadcast. 

The NCOE Fighting Cardinals Volleyball team is also heading to the Super Sectional. They defeated Edwards County in 3 sets last night in the Cobden Sectional Championship, 21-25, 25-19, 29-27. 

NCOE will face Calhoun on Monday in the IHSA 1A Super-Sectional at Trico at 6 PM, as they also look to punch their ticket to the IHSA State Finals.

Taking a look at area football teams who are in action this weekend in the 2nd Round of the IHSA Football Playoffs;

In 1A,
Sesser-Valier will travel to Calhoun.
Casey-Westfield will travel to Brown County.

In 2A,
Johnston City will host Warrensburg-Latham.
Chester will travel to Maroa-Forsyth.
Pana will host Vandalia. 

In 3A,
Nashville will host Greenville.
Benton will host Sullivan-Okaw Valley.

In 4A,
Olney will travel to Normal University.
Murphysboro will host Breese Central.
