Local Sports Recap – November 6, 2023

The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldogs are State Bound!

Carmi defeated St. Thomas More in the Robinson 2A Super Sectional on Friday to punch their ticket to the IHSA State Finals for the first time in school history. 

The Lady Dogs dropped a nail-biter in the first set, falling 23-25. Carmi then trailed 18-13 in the 2nd set, but with their backs against the wall they ended the set on a 12-5 run to send it to a 3rd and decisive set. Carmi dominated the 3rd set, winning 25-18 to claim the super sectional championship. 

The Lady Bulldogs advance to the state semifinals on Friday at noon where they will take on Immaculate Conception Catholic out of Chicago. 

If the Lady Bulldogs win on Friday, they will take on the winner of Breese Mater Dei vs Rock Falls in the State Championship Match on Saturday at 2 PM.

If the Lady Bulldogs lose on Friday, they will take on the loser of Breese Mater Dei vs Rock Falls in the 3rd Place Match on Saturday at 12:30 PM.

Fans will be able to listen to both CWC matches on 97.3 FM WRUL and online at WRUL.com. The IHSA will not allow us to video stream on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel.

In the 2nd Round of the IHSA Playoffs;

Class 1A –
Sesser-Valier defeated Salt Fork 32-8.
The 2-seeded Red Devils (11-0) will host 3-seeded Greenfield (11-0) on Saturday at 2:30 PM.

Class 2A –
Nashville defeats Quincy Notre Dame 27-18.
8-seeded Nashville (8-3) hosts 4-seeded Athens (9-2) on Saturday at 1 PM.

Breese Mater Dei defeats Johnston City 27-18.

Class 3A –
Mt. Carmel defeated Sullivan-Okaw Valley 42-21.
Tolono-Unity defeats DuQuoin 35-25.
#4 Mt. Carmel (10-1) travels to 9-seeded Tolono-Unity (9-2) on Saturday at 2 PM.

Class 4A –
Harrisburg defeats Peoria-Notre Dame 27-22.
Murphysboro defeats Charleston 14-13.
11-seeded Harrisburg (8-3) hosts the 2-seed Murphysboro (10-1) on Saturday at 2 PM.

    CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS! Amazing accomplishment!

    BREAK/break- Same time, by my last check, Illinois taxpayers fund the IHSA, so the fact that we would have to pay $11.99 to watch the matches and not have it provided by the incredible team at WRUL is an abomination. This is a PERFECT example of everything wrong with this state and how its run.
