Local Sports Recap – November 28, 2022

Over the weekend the Carmi-White County girls basketball team wrapped up the 36th annual Harrisburg Preview Tournament in which the Lady Dogs went 2-2. Carmi fell to Harrisburg on Friday 58-39, but they came back on Saturday to defeat Anna-Jonesboro 45-33. Ashlyn Rager and Mara Serafini were named to the all-tournament team. The Lady Bulldogs move to 2-4 on the season, they begin conference play tomorrow when they travel to Hamilton County. That game can be heard on 97.3 FM WRUL and watched on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel.

The CWC boys basketball team begins play in the DuQuoin Tip-Off classic tonight as they face the host Indians at 7 PM. Carmi will face Cairo on Wednesday at 5:30, then they will go back to Du Quoin on Saturday to face Herrin at 12:30 and West Frankfort at 4 PM. All of those games can be heard on 97.3 FM WRUL and online at WRUL.com.

In high school boys basketball from this weekend, 

Wayne City defeated Waltonville 60-49 in the Christopher Turkey Tournament Championship.

New Athens defeated NCOE 31-30 in the 5th place game at the Christopher tourney.

Casey-Westfield defeated North Clay in the Cumberland Thanksgiving Tournament Championship 54-53.

In the Lawrence County Capital Classic tournament, Mt. Carmel defeated Fairfield in the 3rd place game by a final of 72-33. Olney defeated Lawrenceville in the championship 48-42

And in the Vienna Classic, Massac County defeated Vienna in the Championship game, 85-64

Over the weekend, the Southern Illinois Coaches Associations announced the All-South teams for the fall sports season. Draxtyn Aud, Isaac King and Bryson Moore were all named to the All-South football team, and Tanner Spence made the All-South Cross Country team.
