The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldogs are Sectional Champions! Carmi defeated Fairfield last night in the Pinckneyville 2A Sectional Championship in 3 sets, 17-25, 25-19, 25-19.
Carmi struggled in the first set, falling down by 10 multiple times, but ended the first set on a 7-4 run. The Lady Bulldogs then came out firing in the 2nd set, leading by as many as 8 before coming away with the 6 point win, and then they did the same in the 3rd set to clinch the first sectional championship in CWCHS history.
Carmi will advance to the 2A Super Sectional in Robinson tomorrow night where they will battle Champaign St. Thomas More. A win for Carmi will send them to the State Finals in Normal.
Fans who can’t make the road trip to Robinson will be able to watch the match on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel.
There was another area volleyball team who also brought home a sectional championship last night. NCOE defeated Trico to win the Crab Orchard 1A Sectional Championship. They will take on Effingham St. Anthony tomorrow night at the Okawville Super Sectional.
