Local Sports Recap – May 3, 2023

The Carmi-White County Bulldog baseball team fell at home yesterday afternoon to Fairfield by a final score of 11-4. 

The Mules jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, which turned into a 7-1 lead after 2 innings of play. Fairfield continued to score, plating one in the 4th, 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th. The Dogs scored twice in the 4th and once in the 7th, but it was not enough, dropping CWC to 8-12 on the year and 5-4 in the Black Diamond Conference. The Bulldogs will look for revenge when they travel to Fairfield tomorrow afternoon.

The Lady Bulldog softball team picked up a 9-1 win over Fairfield yesterday afternoon at Archie Brown Field, improving their record to 13-7 and 8-1 in the BDC. The Lady Dogs scored in each of the first 4 innings, and they took advantage of 5 Fairfield errors to run away with the victory. 

The Lady Bulldogs will host Goreville this afternoon for Senior Night, they will honor their lone senior, Kassi Milligan.

The Carmi-White County Boys Tennis team walked away with a tie against Herrin yesterday afternoon. The two teams did not play their top 4 varsity players in order to give younger players some action. Carmi went 5-3 in singles matches and 3-1 in doubles matches. The Bulldogs now stand at 15-3-1 on the season, they will have the rest of the week off before they travel to Fairfield next Tuesday.

The boys tennis team is 2 wins away from tying the school record for most wins in a season.
