Local Sports Recap – January 20, 2023

Last night the Carmi-White County Bulldog basketball team defeated Mt. Vernon, Indiana by a final of 62-50. The win improves the Bulldogs 15-4 on the season, and 2-0 in this year’s Carmi-White County Invitational Tournament.

Bryce Conner led the Bulldogs in scoring with 28 points, Gavin Holloman and Tyler Goemaat both scored 9, Mitchel Edwards and Landon Driscoll both scored 6, and Trey Dixon scored 1.

Carmi is the lone unbeaten team in the CIT field, and they control their own destiny at this point, trying to win their first tournament championship since 1999. But it doesn’t get any easier as the Bulldogs will battle Fairfield tonight. The Mules are 1-1 in the tournament after a heartbreaking overtime loss to Harrisburg on Tuesday. Carmi defeated the Mules just 7 days ago in Fairfield, 51-40.

Tip-off is set for 7 PM, fans can listen to the game on 97.3 FM WRUL, or they can watch the game on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel.

Harrisburg will play Evansville Day School tonight at 5:30, then tomorrow it will be Fairfield and Mt. Vernon at 4:30, and Carmi will take on Evansville Day at 6 PM to wrap up this year’s tournament.

Last night the CWC Bulldog wrestling team picked up their 15th win on the season as they defeated Centralia 54-30. The Bulldog wrestlers will host Fairfield and Salem on Tuesday.
