Local Sports Recap – February 10, 2023

Last night the Carmi-White County girls basketball team lost to Woodlawn on senior night by a final score of 51-39. Carmi led 35-34 with 3:35 to go, but Woodlawn ended the game on a 16-5 run to pick up their 22nd win of the season.

Shemaine Lovell led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points.
Caroline Simmons scored 10.
Johanna Smith scored 7.
Ashlyn Rager scored 5.
Mara Serafini scored 2.

The Lady Bulldogs end the regular season with a record of 9-19, they will begin regional play tomorrow at home against Palestine. Fans can listen to that game on 97.3 FM WRUL or online at WRUL.com, Roger Hobbs will be on the call at 1 PM.

The IHSA released the boys basketball regional seeds yesterday afternoon and the Carmi-White County Bulldogs were given the 6 seed in the Pinckneyville Sub-Sectional.

  2. Carterville
  3. Vienna
  4. Benton
  5. Murphysboro
  6. Carmi (C.-White County)
  7. Eldorado
  8. Harrisburg
  9. Johnston City
  10. Anna (A.-Jonesboro)
  11. McLeansboro (Hamilton County)
  12. West Frankfort (Frankfort)

Those 12 teams will split into two regionals, 6 will go to Benton and 6 will go to Harrisburg. The IHSA will release the full brackets this afternoon.

Tonight the Bulldogs will host Hamilton County at McDougal-Evers Gymnasium. Carmi 21-5 on the year and 7-1 in the BDC after suffering their first conference loss to Eldorado back on Tuesday. Hamilton County is 12-16 on the year and 3-6 in the conference. 

CWC will travel to Wayne City tomorrow afternoon to battle the Indians at 3:30.

Best of luck to Bulldog Wrestlers Isaac King, Nelson Rider and Caleb Siebers as they will wrestle at the Carterville sectional tonight and tomorrow morning.
