Back on Friday the Carmi-White County Bulldogs football team began their season with a 46-6 win on the road at Hamilton County. The Bulldogs first team offense scored every time they had the ball. CWC scored twice in the first quarter, twice in the 2nd quarter, once in the 3rd and once in the 4th. The Bulldogs first team defense did not allow a single score against the Foxes, as Hamilton County’s only touchdown came with 7 minutes left to play in the 4th quarter when the 2nd team defense was on the field. Stats wise for the Bulldogs, Isaac King – 24 carries, 167 yards, 3 TD. Draxtyn Aud – 11 carries, 66 yards. Andrew Dodgson – 4 carries, 42 yards, 1 TD. Warren Legg – 2/2 passing, 62 yards, 1 TD. Tyler Goemaat – 1 reception, 33 yards. Nate Brown – 1 reception, 29 yards, 1 TD. Draxtyn Aud led the team with 8 tackles. The Bulldogs will play their first home game this Friday as they host the Vienna-Goreville Eagles.
The CWC junior high softball team split two games at the Johnston City Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Bullpups took down Eldorado 16-2 in their first contest, before losing on a walk-off to Marion 7-6. In game one, Eva Attebury, Grace Sneed and Maggi Pearce collected 2 hits each. Bailey Buchanan, Emilie Hollingsworth and Zoe Walkenbach each had one base hit in the win. In the second game, the Lady Bullpups held a 6-3 lead going into the final inning. Marion then scored 4 runs to win it 7-6 as the game was cut short after only 4 innings due to time constraints. Attebury, Pearce and Sneed along with Alex Vaupel and Bri Hale all recorded base hits in the loss.
The CWC Girls Tennis team took part in the Marion Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs took home 3rd place, losing to Marion and Herrin. The invitational was set up as a round robin with every team playing their top 4 doubles teams. Carmi went 2-2 vs Mt. Vernon, 2-2 vs Herrin and 0-4 vs Marion. The Girls Tennis team will host Mt. Carmel on Tuesday.
And lastly on Saturday the CWC Jr Pro Football teams traveled to Fairfield on Saturday. The 5th and 6th grade team lost a nailbiter, 12-8. The 7th and 8th grade team fell by a final of 40-12.
The CWCHS Boys & Girls teams will travel to Mt. Vernon, Illinois today to face Waltonville/Woodlawn.
