At about 9 AM Saturday, October 23rd, a White County Sheriff’s Department officer responded to a call about a theft that had taken place near the intersection of County Road 2575 and County Road 1400 East in White County.
Doug Winter 66, of Carmi said that at some point between 9:30 PM Friday and 7 AM Saturday, someone had driven onto his field north of the intersection and removed a number of tools and other items from two tractors and a combine harvester that had been parked there. He said the items that had been taken included a number of miscellaneous hand tools valued at approximately $1,000 to $1,500, 40 knife sections for the harvester’s corn header worth about $200, three anhydrous applicator knives worth about $180 and two tool boxes.
Apparently tracks showed a vehicle had backed up between one of the tractors and the combine harvester. Due to the nature of the harvested soybean stubble in the field, any tread information was unable to be obtained, but the vehicle used appears to have a narrow wheel base.
Winter said he would put together a more detailed list of the missing items and provide it to the Sheriff’s Department. An incident report was filed and the list of missing items will be attached to the report once it’s received.
Winter will be contacted if any further information becomes available.
