Lakin Allegedly Drinking And Driving Prior To Vehicle Crash

The McLeansboro woman who was injured in a traffic crash on March 15th in Enfield is being charged with Driving Under the Influence and Possession of Cannabis.  At approximately 2 AM Deputies Wicker, Simmons and Brown responded to a single vehicle crash with the driver being entrapped. Upon arrival the Deputies observed a white SUV off the side of the highway with major front end damage. First Responders were already on scene talking with the driver who identified herself as 36 year old Amy Lakin.  Deputy Simmons then spoke with the driver who confirmed her identity. She told the deputy she was headed to her home in McLeansboro. When asked if she had been drinking Lakin allegedly admitted  she had. According to the report, she admitted she had drank too much and wasn’t sure what had happened. Deputies observed the crash scene and saw where Lakin’s vehicle left the roadway crashing into a tree. She was extricated from the vehicle and flown by helicopter to Deconess Gateway in Evansville.

During an inventory search of the vehicle the deputies found an empty plastic cup with alcohol residue left inside and two containers of Marijuana was found in the center console. Also found was a smoking device, two smaller containers with Marijuana residue and a rubber tube with these items as well. A field test was performed and it was positive for Marijuana. The vehicle was then towed from the scene by S&E.

Due to the condition of Lakin at the time of the accident a Field Sobriety Test was unable to be performed. Lakin is suspected to have been Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol due to there being alcohol in the vehicle as well as Lakin admitting that she had drank too much. It was requested that States Attorney Denton Aud subpoena Deaconess Gateway Hospital for hospital records for blood and urine on Amy Lakin related to this incident. No other information has been released at this time.
