Lack of Registration Prompts Police Stop; Arrest of Mississippi Man

A Mississippi man was taken into custody following a traffic stop on Tuesday, March 29. While on routine patrol, an officer with the White County Sheriff’s Department observed a vehicle that didn’t have any evidence of registration on it. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Oak Street but the driver didn’t pull over until he reached the Social House. At this time Sergeant Moore arrived to assist with the traffic stop. When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver identified himself as 24 year Antonio T Mikell of Hattesburg MS. While talking with Mikell the officer was alerted by the strong odor of cannabis coming from interior of the vehicle. Mikell was advised by the officer wh he pulled him over then asked for his drivers license in which Mikell said it was with his belongings in the Social House. Mikell stated that he had just bought the car and provided the officer with the title. The car was purchased on March 3rd and the assignment of the title was not completed. The officer asked for his full name and date of birth and ran him through dispatch, then was advised that Mikell only possessed a Valid ID card out of MS.

Mikell was then placed under arrest and told the officer that there was a “roach” cigarette in the ashtray. Mikell was then transported to the White County Jail by another officer. The passenger of the vehicle Cody D Pollard was told that Mikell had admitted to having the roach cigarette in the car. Pollard handed the roach to the officer and stated that it belonged to him. When asked if he had anymore cannabis, Pollard provided a container from under the seat and a plastic baggy with cannabis in it from his pocket. Pollard was then given a citation for Illegal Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle by a Passenger. Pollard was given a court date of April 18th.

Mikell was cited for No Valid Driver’s License and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle. He was also charged with Possession of a Certificate of Title Without Complete Assignment.

Bond for Mikell was set at$1500. Mikell paid bond and was released.
