They now have gas money to get back to Carmi for next year’s Kiwanis Club Corn Day. The Carmi Kiwanis Club presented Steve and Rhonda Lucas of Henderson, Kentucky with a check Tuesday afternoon. The couple are the winners of the 2024 half pot. The Lucas’ don’t have direct ties to Carmi, but have been making the trek for several years with their 1923 Ford T-bucket street rod. Steve said they saw Doug Hays while having breakfast that morning and he sold them a pair of tickets. Initially, Steve was concerned because the drawing wasn’t until 8pm and the pair had another car show to get to the next day. He says the couple were having dinner in Owensboro on their way back home Sunday when he looked up the winning number on the Carmi Kiwanis facebook page prompting them to struggle to finish their meal. The Lucas’ say they will definitely be back for the 2025 Corn Day festival.
