Key Club Officers Share What Makes Them Enjoy Service Club

The Carmi-White County High School Key Club has been around for more than 50 years and serves as a youth oriented version of the Kiwanis Club.  Among the group’s core values are leadership, character building, caring, and inclusiveness.  Six of the group’s ten leaders visited Kiwanis Thursday to talk about some of the many service projects that they’ve been a part of over their time in Key Club.  The president of the club is Emma Roedder, sophomore class director is Laney York, sophomore Sadie Balding, and freshman Jacqueline Stevens weren’t able to be in attendance.  Vice president Tanner Spence, Secretary Luci Stubblefield, Treasurer Isaac King, Web Manager Warren Legg, Senior class representative Katelyn Niehaus, and Junior class representative Joseph Gates all talked about their experiences.  Spence has some of the details.

Warren Legg says while he didn’t know much about the club when he initially joined, it’s taught him something he’ll take with him into adulthood.

Doug Hays, the Key Club leader through Kiwanis is leading the kids in his 13th year.  Hays says the school changing when clubs meet has led more young people to get involved in the club and helped them get better organized so they get more accomplished.

In club business, president Emily Williams says the club’s Corn Day vehicles made the trek to their new home.  Thanks to the generosity of member Stan Williams, the water wagon, Cadillac, Corn Car, and bus/float will now be housed in a building owned by Williams after notice was given they would no longer be able to be stored in their previous location.  Additionally, Williams says Kelly Northcott has been able to secure Carnival rides for this year’s upcoming Corn Day festivities and that the rides will be set up once again on the United Methodist Church parking lot, a return to their previous location from several years ago.  Additionally, rides will be open for 3 nights, Thursday through Saturday this year.

Coming up next week, the club will welcome representatives from the Carmi White County FFA.
