Incident at Skeeter Mountain

A wanted Tennessee man is behind bars following a multiple state, county, and agency chase and subsequent manhunt.  White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss says his office was alerted by Nashville, Tennessee police this morning advising there was a wanted subject at the Skeeter Mountain rest stop on I-64 just outside Grayville.  Brandon Freeman was wanted by US Marshals for Violation of Probation, known to be armed and dangerous, was likely to fight law enforcement and attempt to evade arrest.

Just before 11am, agencies including the White County Sheriff’s Department, Grayville PD, Edwards County Sheriff’s Department, and Illinois State Police surrounded the area.  When Weiss and ISP Troopers drove into the rest area and attempted to box in the vehicle Freeman was known to be driving, the suspect drove onto the sidewalk and fled west on the interstate with the pursuit on.  After fleeing into Grayville city limits, along Route 1 and back onto I-64 eastbound into Indiana, law enforcement from Indiana joined in the chase.

Freeman would eventually wreck the gold 4 door he was driving at around mile marker 33 after Senior Indiana State Trooper Finney deployed stop sticks and flee into a wooded area south of the interstate.  Indiana law enforcement and US Marshals with an assist from air support and SWAT located and took Freeman into custody at 1:24pm nearly 2 ½ hours after the initial attempt to make the arrest.  He was subsequently transported to the Warrick County Jail where he remains.

Freeman, in addition to the federal weapons charge he was wanted on, has been charged with resisting law enforcement out of Indiana, a Level 6 Felony, as well as a Class A Misdemeanor charge of resisting law enforcement.
