Illinois State Police District 19 responded to a personal injury traffic crash Saturday morning around 8:50 am at the Shawnee Quick Mart in Shawneetown, IL. Harold B. Vaught, 85, of Shawneetown was attempting to back his Chevy Malibu in the Shawnee Quick Mart parking lot when he struck to driver side of an unoccupied Dodge Caravan. Vaught briefly left and the re-entered the parking lot, before proceeding east on Shawnee Avenue and eventually coming to rest in a grassy area near the end of the roadway. Vaught reported he believed the Chevy’s brakes were not functioning properly at the time of the incident. He and a passenger, John R. Hall, 72, of Shawneetown, were transported by ambulance to an area hospital for medical evaluations. The Chevy was towed from the scene.
Vaught was cited for Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash.
ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department, Deaconess Ambulance Service and C&T Towing.
