Illinois’ credit rating is one ding away from junk status. Credit ratings agency Fitch Ratings lowered the state’s lowest-in-the-nation credit rating to “Triple B Negative” based on their expectation that the state will have difficulty navigating the COVID-19 pandemic’s economic effects. Two other ratings agencies have taken similar actions.
