The Carmi-White County baseball and softball teams now know their postseason fate as the IHSA released the full postseason brackets for all four classes Wednesday afternoon.
For the Lady Bulldog softball team, they are the 2-seed in the northern bracket of the Pinckneyville Sectional, which divides into the West Frankfort and Benton Regionals. Carmi was placed into the Benton Regional.
It’s been a fantastic season for Kaylea Stubblefield and the Lady Dogs thus far, who currently sit with a 14-7 overall record and are one win away from a 2nd consecutive conference championship.
Carmi will begin their postseason on Tuesday, May 16th at 3 PM when they face the winner of 8-seeded Benton (11-15-1) and 11-seeded Eldorado (4-11). *Game is subject to change due to CWC Graduation*
The Lady Dogs defeated Eldorado in a doubleheader just last week, dominating 17-0 and 8-2. They were scheduled to play Benton back on March 24th, but it was rained out.
If CWC gets past the Lady Eagles or Rangerettes in the semifinals, they will battle either the 3-seed Fairfield (12-8) or the 6-seed Hamilton County (11-11) in the regional championship on Friday, May 19th.
The Lady Bulldogs look to win their first regional championship since 2016.
As for the Carmi-White County Bulldog baseball team, they have the luxury of playing their regional tournament at the friendly confines of Eckerle Park.
The Bulldogs were assigned the 5-seed in the northern bracket of the DuQuoin Sectional which feeds into the Carmi and Harrisburg regionals.
It has been an up-and-down season for the young Bulldogs, who currently sit with an 8-12 record. With a combination of injuries and 6 losses by 2 runs or less, theres no question the Bulldogs are a couple of unlucky bounces away from being a team well over .500.
That is the past, the future is now set on the postseason. The Bulldogs will play their regional semifinal match against 3-seeded Mt. Carmel (13-8) on Wednesday, March 17 at 6 PM.
The Bulldogs hosted the Aces back on April 26 in a game in which they led 6-3 after 4 innings, but eventually fell 8-6.
If the Bulldogs are able to get past the Aces in the semifinals, they will take on either 2-seeded Anna-Jonesboro (14-7) or 10-seeded Fairfield (6-16) or 11-seeded Hamilton County (4-17-1) in the regional championship on Saturday, May 20th at 10 AM.
CWC looks to win their first regional since 2017.
