IHSA Makes Major Changes to the High School Sports Schedule; Football Moved to Spring

(Bloomington, IL) —  The Illinois High School Association is planning to restructure its sports calendar for the upcoming school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  All sports will be played over truncated fall, winter, spring, and summer seasons.  The IHSA has placed golf, girls tennis, cross country, and girls swimming into the fall season and can begin August 10th.  The winter season will include basketball, wrestling, boys swimming and diving, competitive cheerleading, competitive dance, bowling, and girls gymnastics November 16th – February 13th.  Football, boys soccer, girls volleyball, cross country, girls swimming and diving, girls badminton, boys gymnastics, and water polo will be played in the spring February 15th – May 1st.  A summer season will be added for baseball, softball, track and field, girls soccer, boys volleyball, lacrosse, and boys tennis May 3rd – June 26th. The plan must receive final approval by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

 

In Indiana, the IHSAA has announced that all fall sports will start on time as regularly scheduled beginning with girls golf July 31st. The rest will begin August 3rd.
