Grayville Flushing Hydrants

The City of Grayville announced the fall schedule for hydrant flushing.

The flushing will run from November 1 through about November 10, with the flushing to be done in the early morning hours, weather permitting.

Hydrant flushing is necessary to test the hydrants to make sure there is adequate flow and pressure is available. The flushing involves the use of high velocity water to scour the inside surfaces of the water mains throughout town. This process allows for the flushing of iron and manganese particles.

The process can cause discolored water and since the system is a continuous loop, discolorations can occur anywhere in the system regardless of where hydrants are being flushed.

The city apologized for the inconvenience and stress the goal is to remove particles and debris from the mains to improve water quality.

Grayville leaders recommended flushing your cold water, (through the bathtub) for 5 to 10 minutes to clear the lines until water returns to normal.

A hydrant flushing program is necessary for preventive maintenance and the integrity of the water system.
