Carmi-White County senior, Tyler Goemaat, has signed to continue his basketball career at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois.
Goemaat wrapped up his CWCHS career with an outstanding senior season which saw the Bulldogs go 26-6, including their first conference championship since 2016.
Goemaat averaged just shy of 9 points and 4 rebounds per game in 2022-2023. Anyone who watched the Bulldogs play this season knows that statistics is not what made Goemaat fun to watch, it was his hustle, determination and unselfishness.
Goemaat shattered the previous CWC record by taking 26 defensive charges during the season.
Goemaat posted to his Instagram account following his official signing:
“Playing basketball at the next level has been something I have always wanted to do. I’m so glad that Coach Bates and Governors State University is given me this chance to do so! I can’t thank my family, friends, and coaches enough for supporting me in all of this. Cant wait to get to work!”
Governors State University is is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) since the 2016–17 academic year.
“We are very proud of Tyler athletically & academically. We are excited for this new adventure,” said Tyler’s dad, John Goemaat.
“We are very thankful for GSU to give him this opportunity. Basketball had always been his favorite sport & it is awesome to get to see him play at the next level & see that all his hard work & dedication has paid off.”
“I’m really happy for Tyler,” said CWC head coach, Kevin Wolff. “Not many people like playing the game as much as he does.”
Congratulations to Tyler Goemaat, and best of luck at Governors State University!
