Friday’s Double Shooting Appears to be Murder Suicide

On Friday at approximately 11:10 a.m., the Carmi Police Department was dispatched to 1604 Hillcrest Avenue in Carmi on a report of a male and female who appeared to have been shot. The 911 caller was a family member who had come to check on the occupants after they had not been answering their phones.

Upon arrival a 71 year old female identified as Phyllis K. Daniel was found deceased in a vehicle in the driveway. A 72 year old male identified as Charles W. Daniel was found deceased inside the home. Both Phyllis and Charles were found to have gunshot wounds.

As previously informed this was an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. After evaluating the evidence it appears Charles W. Daniel took the life of Phyllis K. Daniel while she was inside the vehicle before coming back into the house and taking his own life.

The Carmi Police continue to ask the public to lift the family up in your prayers. The Carmi Police Department was assisted by the White County Sheriff’s Department, White County Ambulance Service, White County Coroner, and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit.
