FERRELL HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES BEGIN RECEIVING COVID-19 VACCINE

ELDORADO, IL – Today, Ferrell Hospital frontline workers began receiving the COVID-19 vaccine from the Egyptian Health Department.

Ten employees were vaccinated this morning, with more scheduled this afternoon and tomorrow.

Dr. Jackson’s vaccination photo is also attached. He was immunized by Jessica Carter, RN, Director
of Nursing

Dr. Joey Jackson, Medical Director of Infection Control at Ferrell Hospital, was among those vaccinated today. Dr. Jackson said, “Far too often, I have encountered patients and community members who have been discouraged or felt very helpless by their current situation with COVID-19. This virus has taken not only the lives of valued members of our community from us, but also our way of life. This vaccine is one of the first signs of hope that there is an endpoint to this pandemic and we can get back to our lives as we knew them. This vaccine also represents an opportunity for those outside of healthcare to take action and help protect their loved ones, coworkers, and fellow community members. I know our community wants nothing more than to get back to family gatherings, regular church services, and not have to worry if a store may or may not be open. I want this as well, and that is why I received the vaccine today. In such a difficult time, we in healthcare can help inform and lead by example.”

Angela Parker, RN, was the first Ferrell Hospital employee to be vaccinated. She provides bedside
care for hospitalized COVID-19 patients. She is receiving her shot from Amanda Goins, RN,
Hospital Educator.

The process and administration of the COVID-19 vaccine throughout the state is being directed and
overseen by the Illinois Department of Public Health. Currently, only healthcare workers are eligible for
the vaccine, but information about the vaccine process is rapidly-evolving. More about the vaccine and
distribution process is available at the IDPH website: https://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/vaccinationplan
