Feline Problem, WADI, and more at Village of Mill Shoals Meeting

The Village of Mill Shoals is currently grappling with urgent issues: glass littering the streets, garbage piling up in yards, and a high case of feline reproduction.

Village President Ron Gray said he would speak to the tenants about large amounts of waste and glass surrounding their property. Unfortunately, the feline problem won’t have a quick solution since the Humane Society does not take in feral cats. A citizen attending the meeting advised that the local coyote population might help the situation since a study indicated that cats comprise 20% of their diet.

The WADI workforce program has some interested participants. The board decided that instead of choosing one candidate, Clerk Tullis would arrange a meeting with WADI. The individuals vying for the spot can also attend the meeting to learn about the position’s requirements. Clerk Tullis suggested that the meeting be held in January to allow plenty of time to get candidates ready for the summer program.

The squad car’s insurance has finally been given, but it still needs licensing.

Election packets are available for any resident wishing to run for a board seat or Mayor. Candidates have until November 20th.

Village Treasurer James Murphy presented the annual report. He summarized that the Village is on solid fiscal footing and reminded the board to exercise caution when considering discretionary spending.

Trustee Young updated the board on the sewer pump station. When there is a storm, the station continues to back up. The board recommended reaching out to additional electricians to see if they could correct the issue, with Clerk Tullis stating he would also call around the region.

The next town-wide trash pickup will be on October 28th.

The next Village of Mill Shoals meeting will be on October 8th at 7 pm.
