Fairfield Memorial Hospital Is Revolutionizing The Way They Operate

Fairfield Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of the da Vinci Xi®
surgical system by Intuitive, designed with the goal of further advancing technology used in
minimally invasive care. The system can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive
surgical procedures and enables multi-quadrant access for gynecology, urology, thoracic,
cardiac, and general surgeries.

Currently the da Vinci Xi® will be used for Urology and General Surgery at Fairfield Memorial
Hospital with room to grow. Dr. Remynse, Urologist; Dr. Molt, General Surgeon; and Dr.
Williams, General Surgeon will use the robot for specific procedures they identify as
appropriate. By providing this cutting-edge technology, our surgeons are able to translate their
gifted talents into their very own science and art, directly benefitting our patients by providing
them with improved outcomes and outstanding care.

By enabling efficient access throughout the pelvis, abdomen or chest, the da Vinci Xi system
expands upon core da Vinci® system features, including wristed instruments, 3DHD
visualization, intuitive motion, and an ergonomic design. As with all da Vinci surgical systems,
the surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci system, which translates their
hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s
body. The Xi® system’s immersive 3DHD vision system provides surgeons a highly magnified
view, virtually extending their eyes and hands into the patient. Key features include:

• Overhead instrument arm architecture designed to facilitate anatomical access from virtually
any position
• Endoscope digital architecture that creates a simpler, more compact design with improved
vision definition and clarity
• An ability to attach the endoscope to any arm, providing flexibility for visualizing the surgical
site
• Smaller, thinner arms with joints designed to offer a greater range of motion than ever before
• Longer instrument shafts designed to give surgeons greater operative reach

“The da Vinci Xi system allows us even more ability to provide the very best care for our
patients close to home,” said FMH CEO Katherine Bunting-Williams. “Patients now have the
option of having their procedure done with the latest technology without having to travel. We are
thrilled to be a leader in this field and look forward to continually bringing our community
advanced minimally invasive surgical options. We are thrilled to be moving from a rural hospital
to a hospital in a rural community”

The surgeons, as well as the supporting surgical team, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital have been
receiving in-depth training on the da Vinci Xi Surgical Platform and are eager to implement this
new cutting edge technology into the OR’s. For more information on minimally invasive surgical
