An Enfield resident filed a report with the White County Sheriff’s Department in reference to identity theft. On January 25th, Lana B Whetstone of 411 E Hosick Street, Enfield, advised Officer Spencer with the WCSD that she received several books of checks and a debit card in the mail for an account she hadn’t opened. Whetstone provided the account information and observed the account was for a Merrill Cash Management Account. The account was in Whetstone’s name only and listed her address.
Whetstone said she was going to contact the bank and advise them that the account had been created fraudulently, but she wanted to make a police report before doing so. Officer Spencer told Whetstone that a report would be filed and advised Whetstone to contact the Sheriff’s Department if she obtained any further information after speaking with the bank.
