The Enfield Village Board met for just under two hours Tuesday night, covering a wide variety of topics. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
There were a half dozen or so residents that attended to find out exactly what happened with the resignation of Chief Mark Wheeler. Mayor Maury Black read Wheeler’s resignation letter, in which it said that there was a clash with some board members that got blown out of proportion concerning the Police car and other issues. Wheeler also posted things on the Enfield Police Department Facebook page about policies and procedures, which are not supposed to be on there. He later took them down on his own volition, without being told to do so. Mayor Black said that Justin Titzer, who had previously worked for the department here, is coming back in a week or so to take on the Police Chief role full-time, working nights. Wheeler said he was willing to come back some time next year to help out part-time.
The board approved a resolution to accept the transfer of the Booth school from the NCOE School District to the village. It includes the school, the 20 acres attached to that to the north, and the ball field. The NCOE School Board approved it at their board meeting last month. Once Enfield gets the deed, they will decide what to do next.
Justin Dartt of Dartt and Co. presented the 2024 audit for the period ending April 30th. He said things are in great shape for a village this size. The village will now do their banking online, The board then approved a contract with Dartt for next year to do the audit for the same dollar amount as this year.
In other business, the street lighting is done on the west end of town; they approved a payment of $35,719 to Followell Construction and a payment of $1,874.98 to Brown & Roberts for new meters for the Water Project; they approved hams and turkeys for all village employees, including the Animal Control Department; approved a resolution for the MFT Revised Maintenance Cost, which has $39,000 for sidewalks and concrete; approved an ad in the NCOE Yearbook for the same amount as last year; they tabled accepting bids on an altitude valve for the water tower until they can be sure they have all the bids in on them; and approved the White County Hazard Mitigation Plan, in which the village can start applying for grants for what to put in the plan.
In the Animal Control report, there were two dogs adopted, 4 tickets issued and paid, 5 dogs impounded, and they raised $845 at Mule Days to be used for spaying and neutering.
In the Utilities report, there was an EPA inspection and some gas lines are being put in.
