Election results are in and the big story is the dismal turnout. To be fair, there weren’t a ton of races, especially locally that were intriguing to voters. For a country that prides itself on free elections, voters being able to have their voices heard with their ballot, and for candidates who spent thousands upon thousands of dollars getting their message across, it appears the public remained largely unengaged. In White County, less than 24% of registered voters turned out, only 2,352 of 9,314. In Hamilton County, 1,892 of 5,493 registered voters or 34% cast ballots. In Gallatin County, it was about the same with 32% or 1,107 of 3,438 making selections. In Edwards County, exactly one in three eligible voters came out (1,419 of 4,254 eligible voters). And in Wayne County, the same story played out with 34% of registered voters casting ballots (3,746 of 10,863).
Incumbents Terri Bryant and Dave Severin have held onto their right to represent the GOP in the general election this November dispatching challengers Wesley Kash and Angela Evans by identical 68% to 32% totals with about 88% of precincts across their respective districts reporting. The Congressional race between Mike Bost and Darren Bailey remains too close to call as of Wednesday morning.
