Eldorado High School Receives Fake Call Regarding Active Shooter

A local school received one of the 21 calls made to multiple schools in Illinois Wednesday in regards to an active shooter, which turned out to be what the Illinois State Police is calling ”swatting.”

At approximately 10:30 a.m. the Eldorado Police Department’s Dispatch and Saline County 911 Dispatch received a call from an individual stating that students had been shot. The Eldorado Police Department and the School Resource Officer responded rapidly to the school and law enforcement officials immediately contacted EHS. It was quickly learned that no incident had occurred at EHS and no student, teacher or visitor had been harmed in any way, and no suspicious person was currently at or had been at the school.

The nationwide trend occurring called “Swatting,” is a hoax regarding a false report of a school shooting. Several police departments in Southern Illinois and throughout the state had received the same phone call. ISP said local law enforcement agencies across the state reported these fake threats to 21 schools in 19 counties.

Eldorado CUSD 4 wants students, parents and the community of Eldorado to know that their children are safe, and NO INCIDENT has occurred. The school thanked all of their local law enforcement agencies for keeping our students, school, and community safe.
