Elastec Funds Equipment for New CTE Training Center in Carmi

Elastec in Carmi is donating $10,000 to the new SIC Stanford D. Williams Career and Training Center in Carmi. The funds are earmarked to purchase equipment for new programs in the training center.

Brian Orr, Director of Operations at Elastec, said, “Elastec is committed to help support the growth of technical trades in our area. Having a hands-on training facility is invaluable to the growth in these trades and the growth of future workforce.”

The inaugural classes in welding and programmable logic controllers began mid-August for primarily Carmi High School students, and Class A CDL classes begin soon. The overall curriculum planned for the site is suited for regional industry aimed at providing cutting edge training in mechanics, and workplace ready skills like communication skills, time management, and other soft skills employers need.

“The second phase of the expansion is expected to be completed next year, and donations from area businesses like Elastec are instrumental in providing key training equipment for the students that mirrors what they will be using in the field,” said SIC President Dr. Jonah Rice. “We appreciate Elastec’s foresight and support of the students of the future workforce.”

Dr. Frank Barbre, SIC Board of Trustees Vice Chair added, “Local business and industry partners like Elastec make SIC’s efforts to provide more career training opportunities a reality. Support from our community business and industry partners provides our area high school students and residents additional opportunities for advanced training now and into the future.”
