The 2020 Edwards County Paint Out Has Gone Virtual, but Paintings Will Still be Available for Sale
The Edwards County “Paint Out” has gone Virtual for 2020! However, paintings from some of the top Plein Air artists in the country will be available for viewing and purchase at the upcoming art show and sale.
Who are Plein Air artists and what do they do? Plein air easels of today—allow artists the freedom to paint “en plein air,” which is the French expression for “in the open air.” Plein Air artists travel, attend art shows and paint their way through the country. Their collections are sought out year after year. You can meet the artists on the Albion Paint Out Facebook page.
Authentic paintings of historic Edwards County landmarks, homesteads and points of interest by these artists will be on display at COUNTRY Financial Hall (Exposition Building) at the Edwards County Fairgrounds on Sunday, September 27, 2020 from 5:30pm until 7:00pm.
Edwards County businesses and organizations like the Albion Area Chamber and West Salem Development Association have collaborated to make sure the Paint Out continues in the tradition of past Albion Paint Outs. Artists will have the opportunity to win awards for their works. For example, “Best of Show” sponsored by Wabash General Hospital Albion Clinic; “People’s Choice” sponsored by Citizen’s National Bank of Albion; “Best Representation of Albion” sponsored by the Albion Area Chamber of Commerce; and “Best Representation of West Salem” sponsored by the West Salem Development Association.
Local Edwards County residents and members of the committee have been taking photos of points of interest and loading them to the Paint Out Facebook page. Artists are then using these photos to paint scenes from the county. The paintings are being shipped or delivered by the artists and will be available for viewing and sale.
“The past few years, our county has come together and enjoyed the artists being here to paint their way through Albion and our surrounding area. While some of the artists might not be here this year; their paintings will be. We’re thrilled to have talented Plein Air artists lend their interpretations of our area onto canvas.” stated Averi Goodman, Chairman of the Edwards County Paint Out.
The public is encouraged to come out to view, vote on favorites and bid to purchase plein air artist’s original paintings to add to their collections. Again, the Art Show and Sale will be at the COUNTRY Financial Hall (Exposition Building) at the Edwards County Fairgrounds on Sunday, September 27, 2020 from 5:30pm until 7:00pm.
