Edwards County Man Sentenced to 4 Years in IDOC on Class 2 Felony Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse Charge

51-year old Mark E. Johnson of Edwards County, Illinois, was sentenced on April 28, 2020 to 4-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a term of 2-years of Mandatory Supervised Release (formerly known as “parole”). Johnson pled guilty in Edwards County Circuit Court to Class 2 Felony Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. This conviction will require Mr. Johnson to register as a sex offender for life. The possible range of penalties for Mr. Johnson’s charge included conditional discharge, probation, or incarceration time. Judge Michael Valentine was the sentencing judge. Edwards County State’s Attorney Eric A. St Ledger prosecuted the case on behalf of the People of the State of Illinois and public defender Brian Shinkle represented the defendant, Mark E. Johnson. This case was investigated by the Illinois State Police.
