On January 14th, a Deputy with the White County Sheriff’s Department along with the White County Ambulance Service responded to a two vehicle accident on Epworth Road and County Road 1450 in Carmi. Upon arrival the Officer was notified that there were no serious injuries but that there was an elderly male sitting in the medic’s vehicle. The Officer then began talking with the first driver Brendon Hightshoe of Indiana. Hightshoe stated that he was driving North bound when he rounded the curve and was struck in the front of Hightshoe’s vehicle causing the collision. A valid license was run on Hightshoe which came back clear and valid.
The officer then spoke with the driver of the second vehicle, 81 year old Kenneth Taylor of 1109 Stewart Street, Carmi. Taylor told the officer that he was on his way to Evansville and he spilled coffee on his hand and burned himself. He took eyes off the road to check his hand and when he looked up he had crossed into the other lane and struck the vehicle being driven. The Officer did a valid driver’s license check and it came back that Tayler did not have a valid driver license and had an out of geographical warrant.
The Officer gave Taylor a notice to appear for no valid driver’s license and a ticket for no valid insurance in the vehicle at that time of driving. The Officer issued two citations and drove Taylor back to his house. Taylor was advised that his vehicle was being impounded and the cost to get it back would be $200, which would need to be paid to the Sheriff’s department. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Both Hightshoe and Taylor refused medical treatment on scene.
