Dawgs Do It Again – CWC Football moves to 4-0

The Carmi-White County Bulldogs defeated the Christopher-Zeigler Royalton Bearcats on Friday, September 16 at home by a final of 53-16.

The Bulldogs got the ball first, and marched right down the field as Isaac King capped off a 5-play drive with a 12-yard touchdown run. A Mitchell Edwards extra point kick put the Bulldogs in front 7-0 with 9:47 left in the 1st quarter.

CZR went three-and-out on their first possession, but the Bearcats would attempt a fake punt from their own 31-yard line, which went as bad as one might expect. The very next play, Warren Legg hit Cade Allen in stride for a 31-yard touchdown pass to extend the CWC lead to 13-0 with 8:15 to go in the 1st.

Another CZR three-and-out, and another CZR fake punt failure gave the Bulldogs great starting field position. Three plays later, Draxtyn Aud took the handoff and leaped into the endzone from 14-yards away and the Bulldog lead was up to 19-0 with 4:44 left in the 1st.

The Bearcats would finally put together a successful drive, led by quarterback Trey Cole. Cole would find Aidan Skropk in the corner of the endzone to cap off the drive and put CZR on the board. It was 19-8 with 36 seconds left in the 1st.

It would just take one play for Carmi to find the endzone again, King took the handoff and went 54-yards for a touchdown on the first play of the ensuing drive. CWC’s lead was back up to 3 scores, 27-6.

CZR would go three-and-out again to begin the 2nd quarter, and Carmi would punch it in on the first play of their next drive, again. King would run it in this time from 33-yards out. 35-6 Bulldogs with 11:32 left in the half.

The next Bearcat drive would be cut short after Landon Driscoll picked off Cole and ran it all the way back to the CZR 25-yard line. Four plays later, Aud would run in his 2nd touchdown of the night. The Bulldog lead was up to 41-6 with 6:21 left in the 2nd quarter.

The Bearcats would fumble a snap on fourth down on their ensuing possession, and Andrew Dodgson would run it in from 19-yards out on the very next play. That would extend the Bulldog lead to 47-6, and that would be the halftime score.

CZR got the ball to start the 2nd half, and they gave it right back to the Bulldogs. Trayton Vickers would step in front of the CZR receiver for his 2nd interception of the night.

On the very next play, Isaac King would put the nail in the coffin with a 44-yard touchdown run to make it 53-6 Bulldogs. The 5th one-play-drive for the Bulldogs on the night.

The Bearcats would score with 3:17 left to play in the game to make the score 53-16, and CWC would go on to win by that final score.

The Bulldogs are 4-0 for the first time since 2016. Their next opponent is the 3-1 Fairfield Mules. Fairfield defeated Flora back on Saturday 24-14. Carmi has not defeated the Mules since 2012.
