The Carmi-White County Bulldog baseball team defeated Fairfield Thursday afternoon by a final score of 7-4.
The Bulldogs came into Fairfield looking for revenge on their 11-4 loss that they suffered to the Mules just 2 days prior.
In Tuesday’s game, the Mules offense got hot early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. In Thursday’s game, the Bulldog offense got hot early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead.
It all started in the top of the 2nd inning, a single by Merick Millhorn and then a Mule error put runners on 2nd and 3rd with just one out. An RBI sacrifice-bunt by Jaxen Alrbight brought in Millhorn to put the Dogs ahead 1-0. Two pitches later, Landon Driscoll came in to score on a wild pitch, Carmi led 2-0 after 2.
In the top of the 3rd, Cade Allen and Caleb Seibers led off the inning with back-to-back singles, and then Millhorn was able to bring them in on a 2-run RBI double. CWC’s lead jumped to 4-0.
Fairfield was able to answer with 2 in the home 3rd making it a 4-2 ballgame, but the Dogs got those 2 runs right back in the 4th on RBI singles by Allen and Seibers.
The Mules scored once in the 4th and once in the 5th to get within striking distance, CWC led 6-4 after 5 innings.
Carmi was hoping for at least one insurance run in the top of the 6th, and that is what they got on an RBI single by Gavin Holloman, scoring Cade Allen. The Bulldogs led 7-4, and they would go on to win by that score.
To go along with CWC’s 10 hits, Landon Driscoll pitched a gem.
Driscoll picked up his 3rd win of the year, going the distance and allowing 4 runs, 3 of them earned on 7 hits, 4 walks with 8 strikeouts.

The Bullogs will travel to Grayville Friday afternoon to battle the Bison.
They will then travel to DuQuoin Saturday for a doubleheader.
The Carmi-White County Lady Bulldog softball team fell to Fairfield on Thursday by a final of 6-5.
It was all-Lady Dogs early, an RBI groundout by Alayna Johnson scored Audrey Upton in the top of the 1st inning to put Carmi ahead 1-0.
Carmi came back and scored 2 more in the top of the 2nd thanks to an RBI triple by Mia Evans that scored Caroline Simmons, and an RBI groundout by Alexa Knight that brought home Evans. Fairfield answered in the home 2nd, CWC led 3-1 after 2 innings of play.
Neither team plated a run until the 5th inning when a 2-run RBI double by Kassi Milligan scored Alayna Johnson and Mara Serafini and CWC’s lead jumped up to 5-1.
In the 6th inning, the Lady Mules were able to find some offense for the first time all week. After a triple, single, sacrifice fly, two fielders choices, an RBI groundout and a 2-run RBI double, this game was suddenly tied 5-5 after 6 innings.
The Lady Dogs were held scoreless in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, an RBI sinlge by Rylee Edwards brought in the winning run, and the Lady Mules walked it off, winning 6-5.

Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs claim a share of the Black Diamond Conference championship with Flora losing to Hamilton County.

CWC is now 14-8 on the year, they will travel to Benton on Saturday.
