CWC School Board To Partner With Wabash General Hospital With Program For Athletes

The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding, which will allow the district to partner with Wabash General Hospital for a strength and conditioning program for athletes for the 2023-2024 school year.  High School Principal Bart King presented the program to the board and recommended it be paid for with one of three coverage packages, known as the “Bulldog Package”, which is $30,200 annually, or $2,516.67 a month.  The other two packages were known as the “State Champion Package” for $6,600 annually and the “Sectional Champion Package” for $4,400 annually.  This is a one year package and the contract goes into effect beginning July 1st.

The board agreed to accept bids for the replacement of the FFA barn at the end of College Blvd., which was destroyed by a storm in the spring of last year.  The district received insurance monies to be used towards replacing the building.

School board meetings will continue to be held on the third Monday of every month at 7 PM.  Exceptions are the June meeting, which will be held on Tuesday June 20th; the January meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, January 16th; and the February meeting, which will be scheduled for Tuesday, February 20th.  Meetings will be held at the Junior/Senior High School Cafeteria or at the Jefferson Attendance Center annex building.

In the Superintendent’s Report, Jerrod Newell listed the end-of-year events.  The Prom at New Harmony will be on April 21ST at 6:15 PM, the One-Niter will be on May 5th and 6th at 7:30 PM both days, Baccalaureate is May 14th at 6 PM, High School Awards Day is May 11th at 10:15 AM, and Junior High Awards Day and Completion Ceremony is May 19th at 6 PM.  The Last day for Unit #5 students is May 23rd and the last day for Unit #5 staff is May 24th.

The Illinois Department of Public Health is providing more than 750 eligible K-12 districts across the state with portable air purifiers and a two year supply of replacement filters at no cost.  Carmi-White County will receive 74 portable air purifiers through this opportunity.

The district has begun using a Business Account Card that provides 2% cash-back on all purchases that are attributed to the account.  The money from the rebate program will be used to support the district.

And the various school building administrators gave their Good News reports.

The Consent Agenda was approved.  It includes 2023-2024 open house, in-service, and parent/teacher conference dates; First Bank remains the permanent depository of school funds; ten proposed changes to board policies were approved and four board policies will be reviewed and monitored for approval at next month’s meeting; and the board accepted the resignations of Teresa Melton as a Special Education Individual Aide at Washington School effective immediately and Alison Childers as the CWCHS Color Guard and Winter Guard Director effective April 13th, 2023; and donations totaling $1,001  were approved for the Brownsville School.
