The Carmi White County Unit 5 School Board met for its regular monthly session Monday night Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
After last month’s controversial lengthy session, the board met for just seven minutes with a very light agenda.
The Consent Agenda was approved, consisting of preliminary adoption of four board policies with final action set for next month’s meeting, and adoption of 11 board policies with no changes.
In the Superintendent’s Report, Jarrod Newell noted that the opening of school is less than one month away. Online registration for students will be from July 30th to August 1st. Assistance with online registration is available by appointment at each building. August 12th and 13th will be teacher institute and workdays for staff. The first day for students will be Wednesday, August 14th, and there will be a one-hour early dismissal for students during the first week of school. The summer custodial staff is preparing the buildings for the start of the school year and summer Maintenance Projects that have been approved are also in progress. Also, they are working on the preliminary 2024-25 school year budget and will have it ready for next month’s meeting.
There was no old business. In new business, the board approved the Elementary, Junior High and Senior High School Handbooks for the 2024-2025 school year, with no changes from the previous school year. They also will be available on the district website.
The board went into Closed Session at 7:07 PM to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of an employee or officer.
