A Carmi man is out on bond following his arrest on DUI charges minutes before Saturday turned to Sunday. A White County Sheriff’s deputy and a Norris City police officer were dispatched to rural Norris City in reference to a vehicle in a ditch and the caller stating an inebriated man was walking around the vehicle. Upon arrival, officers say they found Dewayne Cunningham of First Street asleep behind the wheel of a ditched Ford pickup. The report indicates Cunningham admitted to drinking “a lot” that night and crashing the vehicle into the ditch. Field sobriety tests were conducted. Information from those tests were withheld in the report and Cunningham allegedly refused to blow into the alcohol breath test device. He was eventually taken into custody and is being charged with DUI, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Driving on the Wrong side of the Roadway. Cunningham would bond out just before 3am Sunday to the tune of $100 plus booking fee. He’ll be due in White County court before Judge Webb at 9am on May 2nd.
