Cowling Introduces Dutch Hollow Supplies at Carmi Kiwanis Thursday

Unveiled in 1984, Dutch Hollow Supplies has been growing over the last four decades.  Bryan Cowling, a well known Carmian, has been working for the company since 2017 and dropped by Kiwanis Thursday to tell folks more about the new supplier.

We’re not a new company by any means.  We’ve actually been in business for 40 years.  Based out of Belleville, a gentleman by the name of Mark Caddell and his son Eric own the company.  Mark started back in 1984 as a contract cleaner and in so doing, he found out that they needed some place to buy their products and from that, Dutch Hollow was born.

The facilities maintenance provider services Central and Southern Illinois, Greater Metro St. Louis, St. Charles, and Southeast Missouri and provides a variety of products to a multitude of industries including offices, building service contractors, retailers, education and childcare facilities, healthcare, bars and restaurants as well as governments and municipalities.

Cowling says there simply wasn’t enough foot traffic to Reppert’s to maintain the brick and mortar location.  Cowling and Brandy Williams have the region canvassed and work to assist folks who need to make purchases.  Dutch Hollow makes 2 – 3 per week deliveries to the area as well so needs can be continuously met.  When it comes to competing with big box stores, Cowling once again says it’s about finding partnerships to help solve problems.

A lot of people question ok, a small family owned company…how do you compete with the big box stores, Amazon, Staples, Home Depots?  In 2016, Dutch Hollow joined up with an organization called Triple S Sanitary Solutions.  We’re part of a network of 130 dealers spread across the country that are buying together and the products that go out, they align different manufacturers to manufacture certain products and then the Triple S label goes on that.  So it’s basically a private label product.  Kind of a local tie…Berry Global for instance makes all of our trash can liners.  You won’t see Berry Global on there, you’ll see Triple S, but it’s through that organization that gives us a lot of buying power and access to products that we wouldn’t have on our own.
