The Norris City Village Board met Monday night for their regular monthly session for about an hour and a half. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
Kim Winter and Becky McCormick of Coins for Cancer, which offers financial assistance to residents with cancer in White County, spoke to the board. Winter noted that they weren’t there to solicit donations, just to introduce themselves to the area, and talk about what they do. They are planning a free cancer survivor dinner in the future. Mayor Skip Land said the group’s information will be made available to the public in the city hall lobby.
The board approved a donation of $250 to the Norris City Athletic Association, $340 for a four-person team for the NCOE Golf Scramble to be held on April 20th, and their usual $500 donation to NCOE High School for their Drug and Alcohol-Free all night graduation party on May 17th.
Mayor Land noted that there have been several high school students doing drag racing down Main Street. Police have been working part time to patrol the area.
The Dale Water District is run by Norris City. The water tower needs repair and there are some fire hydrants available to them that can be installed. The issue was tabled until they can determine exactly what to do.
The village filed a $25,000 insurance claim on the basement of the sewer plant, which was flooded with raw sewage. The board voted to purchase a flow meter for cleanup at a cost of $2,700.
The Lion’s Club is donating $5,260 to the village, and the board voted to put the money in the Parks and Recreation Fund.
A lead and copper water line report is being conducted. There have been no problems with lead in the water and they’re now looking at copper.
Cleanup of tree branches on Cherry, Orchard, and Carroll Streets was tabled until the village can determine how to pay for the cleanup and how much it will cost.
There were no rate changes in the secondary village insurance with Morgan White, so Mayor Land signed off on its renewal.
The board agreed to purchase a generator for the Senior Center so it can be used as a heating or cooling center. The cost is $11,000, with half the amount to be paid by the Township, and TIF money can be used.
In the Police Report for February there were five reports written with nine traffic stops and warnings, and 17 dispatch calls.
The board was in Executive Session from 8:11 to 8:34 PM with no action taken.
The next meeting of the Norris City Village Board will be Monday, April 1st.
