City of McLeansboro Discusses Hand Full of Topics

The McLeansboro City Council met Tuesday night for about an hour.  Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

The Hamilton County Rotary Club presented a check to the city for $10,000 for building a pavilion out of money that they raised. Resident John Scattone addressed the council members about people not cleaning up their properties.  He has appeared in front of the council in the past, and said he was frustrated about not anything apparently being done.  He was told that there are procedures they must go through, but it’s hard to get people to comply, even if they’re taken to court.  Scattone said he would stay optimistic, but wasn’t expecting anything to happen.

Representatives from SRM Insurance were at the meeting giving a brief review of the city’s liability, worker’s compensation and health insurance policies for 2025.  Renewal of the policies is due on December 1st in the amount of $251,000, which will be approved at next month’s meeting.

The Consent Agenda was approved.  It includes FY 25 Appropriations Amendments, FY 25 Budget Amendments, the monthly Zoning Report, a resolution for the Hamilton County Rotary Club’s Christmas Parade to be held on December 7th from 5 to 6 PM, acknowledging the Hamilton County Women’s Leadership Council’s Halloween Hustle 5K on October 26th at 9 AM, and accepting the resignation of Police Officer Treylen Veach effective this past September 30th.

The Police Department received their grant money to purchase tasers, and their dog will graduate from the K-9 academy November 8th.

The board approved Jessica Sexton’s request to live in a camper for 30 days until she can find another place to live.

They also approved a proposal to demolish the structure at 211 West Cherry Street at a cost of $6,500 and a proposal to demolish the structure at 303 West Market Street at a cost of $4,500. Liens will be placed on both properties.

The board voted to utilize the Local Debt Recovery Program, which will allow the city to work with the state comptroller to help recover money from delinquent utility bills or unpaid tickets.

And they approved sending out letters to those with delinquent bills for fire calls.

The board adjourned at 6:32 PM.
