A strange crime reported out of 8th Street in Carmi this week. Resident Judith Nelson tells Carmi Police she believes someone over the last couple weeks has been cutting on a tree in her yard. Officers note in the report it appears the tree is dead. Nelson says she hasn’t given anyone permission to take down the tree and doesn’t have an idea as to who would be doing it. A Criminal Damage to Property complaint was signed.

A Carmi woman and a Grayville man are back out on the streets following their arrest and day in court. Carmi Police say they were called to a William Drive residence in the early morning hours Thursday. There they found 29 year old Emilee Jo Duckworth who lives at the address and 24 year old Chase Kramer of Grayville involved in a physical altercation. The officer on duty took statements and photos of injuries to both parties and both were subsequently arrested. They were both preliminarily charged with domestic battery and then appeared before Judge T Scott Webb later Thursday morning. Court records show Duckworth ended up pleading guilty to Disorderly Conduct with the domestic battery charge dismissed. Kramer, meanwhile pled guilty to Domestic Battery while the Disorderly Conduct charge was dismissed. Both subjects’ 6 month jail sentences were stayed and instead he was given 2 years of conditional discharge. Both are due back in court for a review in December.
