Carmi Rotary Selling Chili For Super Bowl Game

The Carmi Rotary club spent the majority of their Thursday meeting in the kitchen, preparing chili for the upcoming “Super Chili for that Super Football Game.” Patty Mills had done a lot of the prep work, and Little Giant came through with hamburger cooked and ready to go. The Rotarians will be selling quarts of their world-famous chili on Friday, February 10th, so customers can have it ready to go for the big game. Pick up your chili at Haskell’s Chiropractic on Oak Street here in Carmi. Quart jars go for twelve dollars and can be purchased in the parking lot of the office. Serving will start at 4:00 and continue until the last jar is sold.

Once the chili supper is over, the Rotarians will begin work on their biggest fundraiser of the year, the Spring Trivia.

This spring’s version will take place on Saturday, March 11th at the American Legion on Oak Street in Carmi. The night kicks off at six pm and should wrap up around eight.

There will be four rounds of ten questions each, covering such topics as: history, sports, pop culture, the Bible, language, food and a few other brain teasers thrown in for good measure. The questions get tougher as the night moves along, and the point totals increase as well. At the end of the night a champion will be crowned, and prize money will be handed out to the top three teams. Teams need to be made up of four people, and the cost per team is only $40, and can be paid at the door.

The Rotary club is putting out a challenge this year to reach at least sixteen teams. To hit that goal they are urging folks in the area to talk to friends, neighbors, co-workers, anyone that might be interested in being part of this fun night.

This year it would be great to have some “mini” competitions going on as well. Two local banks battling it out. Two service clubs trying to outdo each other. Two church teams in a little friendly competition. The possibilities are endless.

Remember the date: Saturday, March 11th, six o’clock at the American Legion.

The Carmi Rotary club meets every Thursday at noon at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Carmi. Anyone wishing to learn more about this civic organization is welcome to attend a meeting or speak with any Carmi Rotarian.
