Carmi PD Identify, Speak with Owner of Burned Jeep

Carmi Police say they now know the owner of the Jeep Compass that was discovered abandoned and burned beyond recognition on Saturday, February 25th.  According to a new report, police say they reviewed video footage they obtained and spoke with the owner of the vehicle, 23 year old Jeffery Rawlinson of Maunie Tuesday evening.  He tells authorities he went to the dam around 5:30pm on Friday and got stuck shortly thereafter.  Rawlinson advised he spent some time attempting to get the vehicle freed before eventually leaving it and walking away.  He says he was later notified the vehicle had burned.  Two other witnesses were named in the report, but their identities have been redacted.  Rawlinson’s mother, Angela Peyton is also named in the report as the registered owner of the 2007 Jeep.  The vehicle was discovered around 9pm on the 25th by three males who had located the vehicle and alerted authorities.

The Carmi Police Department still have no leads in regards to a burned out vehicle that was found Saturday night at the dam area of the Little Wabash River. the CPD was dispatched to the dam at around 9:00 p.m. where they observed the burned vehicle as well as a second vehicle that was occupied by three males who had located the burned vehicle and alerted authorities. Due to extensive damage to the exterior and interior the make of the vehicle wasn’t known. Officers then located a center cap on the front driver’s side of the wheel and determined it was a Jeep SUV.  Due to some wood around the vehicle still being on fire, the Carmi Fire Department was called tp put the fire out. The Jeep SUV was photographed and towed from the scene.
