A Carmi man is behind bars on charges of Attempted Residential Arson, Domestic Violence, and Assault after a Tuesday afternoon incident. 50-year-old Dale McLain of 508 West Sycamore allegedly locked his father and sister out of the house, took a gas can inside and threatened to burn it down. When Carmi Police arrived just before 3pm, they say they tried to talk McLain into coming out of the house. Instead, he locked himself inside and said he intended to go down in flames. Police then say they received permission from the homeowner and after seeing McLain with the gas can and a lighter, entered the home and took him into custody. Online court records don’t yet show as of Wednesday morning when McLain will be due before a judge.
