Carmi Lions Welcome Carmi League of Arts, Plan Joint Breakfast September 21

The regular meeting of the Carmi Lions Club held on August 13 included a presentation from Lion Haliey Winkleman about the Carmi League of Arts. Hailey represents the League as the Publicity Officer.

The Carmi League of Arts is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year, and in honor of that milestone has been working on the “Curtains Up!” initiative. This is a fundraising effort for new curtains for the CWCHS Auditorium. All proceeds from concessions or merchandise at League events this year will go toward this initiative.

The League is partnering with the school directly, so they are waiting to hear from the school board about the final amount needed, but the current estimate is $26,000. If the goal is exceeded, leftover funds will be donated to the Carmi Fine Arts Booster Club so all fundraising efforts support the arts programs at the high school.

As part of this celebration, the League put on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, an all-ages musical including several folks who have done shows in the past. The age range of the performers was 6-86. The League is overwhelmed with gratitude by how the show was supported by the community, including a donation from the Lions Club of Carmi.

The League is currently sponsoring a free outdoor concert series, called “Night Under the Stars.” Both the Gospel Sing and the performance by Kyilindi Pipes & Drum Band were highly attended. The final concert is Sunday, August 18 at 7pm at the gazebo by the Carmi Public Library. This vocal concert will feature songs from League history. More information is on the League’s Facebook page.

The Lions are partnering with the Carmi League of Arts to put on a community breakfast on September 21 from 7-10am. The Club has historically held monthly breakfasts to support not only their own fundraising efforts, but those of other community organizations, as well.

All of the meals are FREE for kids 5 and under, with a cost of $5 for all other attendees if the tickets are purchased in advance. There will be all-you-care-to-eat pancakes, sausages, biscuits and gravy. Tickets may be purchased from Lions Club members, League members, or at the door of the event. Tickets are $6 at the door.

The public is invited to join the Club in supporting the Carmi League of Arts on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 7am-10am. Our Lions Den address is 305 1st St.

Please reach out to Publicity Officer Hailey Winkleman with any questions or if you are interested in making a donation to the Carmi League of Arts: [email protected]
