The Carmi Kiwanis Club met February 13th. President Eric Rahlfs reminded the club of Pancake Day on February 29, 7 am – 11 am at Washington School Cafeteria.
The program featured Justice David Overstreet. Judge Overstreet began his career on the bench as a Circuit Judge in 2007. He reminisced that his first assignment brought him to White County every Monday. He now serves in the Illinois Appellate Court of the Fifth District that encompasses thirty-seven counties. He explained the difference between Circuit Court and Appellate Court as going from the courtroom back to law school.
Judge Overstreet also shared the backstory to the operational plan of the Illinois Judicial Branch that was adopted in October of 2019. The plan includes a mission statement, core values, a vision statement, and fifteen strategic goals to be accomplished in the next three years. The meeting ended with a time for questions and answers.
