The Carmi city council meeting held nothing but good news for the 2022 year.
First on the agenda was the authorization for Mayor Jeff Pollard to move forward in applying to the Economic Development Administration ARPA Tourism grant. This grant will allow the city to revamp the 66 acres they own, into an RV park that runs off the city sewage. It will also add great economic traction.
Lance Yearby, president of the Carmi Christmas Elves, who heads the Lights of Hope each year was also in attendance. He announced that the lights brought in over $31,000 this year alone. They are not only able to provide each child in the area (who needs them) with new shoes and socks, but they were also able to give to the tornado victims this past month, as well as to the family of the officer who passed away, Officer Riley.
Mayor Jeff Pollard also sent out a reminder that permits such as building and demolition are required and are free to obtain to the public. Those who refuse to cooperate will be prosecuted. All parks in the city are also under video surveillance at all times. Any and all forms of destruction of property or illegal activity will also be prosecuted.
The city council board members are in adjournment and will meet again in two weeks.
